New Delhi: While opposition has prepared its own plan to corner the BJP-led Centre over several issues during the upcoming Parliament’s monsoon session, the ruling party is also ready with ammunition to blunt their expected attack.
The opposition parties are likely to attack the NDA government over several issues ranging from the ongoing India-China border tensions and Centre’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To counter their offensive, the BJP has decided to bank on loopholes of the opposition, including a division among the rivals and internal bickering within Congress apart from the Centre’s initiatives during the monsoon session.
The ruling party may point out the recent rumblings in the Congress, which triggered after 23 party leaders sought organisational overhaul, to blunt opposition’s attacks.
BJP sources said that the opposition is unlikely to corner the Centre over India-China standoff and only a few parties have backed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s repeated attack at the Centre over the issue.
“The way the government has strongly defended the country’s interests at the border is there for all to see. We are sure that the Congress will be isolated during any debate over the issue,” a party leader said, claiming that most non-NDA parties are in support of Modi dispensation over the issue.
BJP ready with own set of charges against opposition
The BJP will also hit back at the opposition aggression with its own set of charges against the rival parties, especially the Congress, over several issues, including alleged donations to foundations linked to the Gandhi family from the Chinese government.
The ruling party has also planned to play down the opposition’s attack on the continuing spike in COVID-19 cases in India by highlighting country’s low fatality rate and its relatively fewer cases per million population compared to other seriously-hit countries.
Non-BJP ruled state Maharashtra, which has the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country, could also become ammunition for the saffron party to counter the opposition’s offensive.
The BJP will also bank on the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package of Rs 1.70 lakh crore, announced for the more vulnerable sections of society amid coronavirus lockdown, and free ration to over 80 crore people till November to recount its “pro-people” sensibilities
The ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) agenda is also likely to be highlighted by the BJP during the session as the government’s nationalist credentials.
